Furniture is composed of four factors: material, structure, appearance and function. Function is the forerunner and the driving force for its development; structure is the backbone and the basis for realizing the function. These four factors are interrelated and restrict each other. Since products are designed and produced to meet people's corresponding material needs and usage purposes, they also have factors in material and appearance.
It is made of various materials through a series of technological processes. The materials are composed of
furniturematerial basis. Therefore, in addition to the basic requirements of functionality, beauty and craftsmanship, design is also closely related to materials. To this end, designers are required to do the following:
1. Be familiar with the types, properties, specifications and sources of raw materials;
2. Design good products based on existing materials and make the best use of them;
3. Be good at using various new materials to improve product quality and increase product aesthetics. In addition to commonly used wood, metal, and plastic, there are also rattan, bamboo, glass, rubber, fabric, decorative panels, leather, sponge, fiberglass, etc. However, not all materials can be used in furniture production.
